Note: This is the first in a series of articles about streamlining the hiring process.
Most managers agree that hiring is one of the most important functions of what they do, but it can also be the most time consuming and tedious. New hires mean paperwork, rules and time constraints on top of an already full schedule.
So how do you take the pain out of hiring? Streamline it. Easier said than done, but it needs to be broken down to its essential steps so that hiring is quick and easy for everyone involved, from the manager down to the new employee.
One of the most important things you can do is put an end to long delays. Put yourself in the job-seeker’s shoes. Your application might be one of five he or she filled out — that week — and waiting to hear back is an agonizing process. Just as you are looking at more than one candidate, they are looking at more than one employer.
And make no mistake, recruitment is competitive. So if a highly qualified candidate has to wait 2 weeks to hear back from your company, they may either lose interest or be scooped up by one of your competitors. Don’t let paperwork or apathy slow the hiring process and prevent you from taking action.
Top talent won’t stay available for too long, so be sure to strike while the iron is hot!
